Agiosstefanos
Agios Stefanos is a town in the northeastern Athens conurbation, in East Attica, and serves as the seat of the Dionysos municipality. Sitting at roughly 350m elevation between Mount Parnitha and Mount Penteli, it has a railway station on the Athens-Thessaloniki line and lies near the source of the river Kifisos.
History
Historically an Arvanite settlement, Agios Stefanos first appeared as a distinct community in the 1928 census with 334 residents. It grew steadily through the 20th century as Athens expanded northward, reaching 2,388 residents by 1981 and passing 10,000 by the 2011 census. Since the 2011 Kallikratis local-government reform it has served as the seat of the Dionysos municipality. The Athens ERA-1 transmitter, one of Greece's tallest structures, stands just north of the town.
